In Ngomeni village, CANCO joined indigenous and local women from the Tuhifadhi Women Group to commemorate World Wetlands Day 2026 under the theme “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage.” The event highlighted the vital role of community knowledge in conserving coastal wetlands, including mangrove ecosystems.

The womend rawn from Waata, Bajuni, and Giriama communities shared rich traditional insights on wetland management within the Malindi–Magarini Joint Co-Management Area, emphasizing their importance in sustaining fisheries, supporting livelihoods, protecting against climate impacts, and maintaining water quality.Through such engagements, CANCO continues to strengthen community-led conservation efforts to safeguard coastal wetland biodiversity and the socio-economic benefits it provides.
