Advancing the Rights of Women in Small Scale Fisheries :Msambweni, Kwale County

In Msambweni, Kwale County, we held a dedicated session with women engaged in  small-scale fisheries, creating a platform to amplify their voices, experiences, and contributions to the sector.

The discussion highlighted the unique challenges faced by women, particularly those involved in Beach Management Units (BMUs) and post-harvest activities such as processing, trading, and marketing. Participants shared firsthand insights on barriers to participation, access to resources, and opportunities for strengthening their role in fisheries value chains.

The session reaffirmed the importance of promoting gender equity in fisheries by supporting women’s rights, enhancing their participation in decision-making processes, and recognizing their critical contribution to sustainable fisheries and coastal livelihoods.
